The Quarantine Opus Book
During the Covid-19 Pandemic, I created a Quarantine Opus Book on my dining room table from March 18 to May 18, 2020.
As a mixed – media artist and as an accidental archivist, I repurpose found paper and abject objects that bear the weight of history; they tell tales of love, loss, sacrifice, travel, marriage, birth, death, wars and work.
Trained by the Abstract-Expressionists, my work is stream-of-consciousness. I value intuition over rationality, emotion over logic in my work, and often feel the shadow of the long departed choosing to be seen in my present time, their future. This work is a witness to their enduring humanity and our fragile world.
As the global community shut down, those of us lucky enough to have a home, were bound to it as the world stood still. This book is both a memorial to those who died and a reminder that the more things change the more they stay the same.
